Philip Striech

Chapter 11: the next bill gates

Phillip Streich was not always rich, he started off as just a boy living out in Amish country, homeschooled in a farm house, however he was still a very bright young kid with lots of interest in science. Phillip would read book after book after book, teaching himself along the way. Eventually his mom convinced him to enroll at the university of Wisconsin were he could take some college courses, at age fourteen. At the university Phillip began working in a nanotechnology lab with a man named Jim. Phillip was assigned the task to find a solution in which carbon nanotubes were soluble. Since with no previously made machine could he do it he made his own machine. He turned out successful, and his work brought him to winning the intel science fair, which brought him back to Wisconsin more eager than ever. Here he now was able to create graphene which could be used in to make electronics incredibly more efficient and small. Then using their five patents he and Jim set out to start a company where they would produce graphene on a large scale, regardless of the large distance between the two of them because Phillip was now going to Harvard. Now entering the 2009 intel science fair Phillip was the up against the biggest competition of his life. From the homeschooled boy in a Amish crackhouse binge reading science books he was now one of the most successful young scientists of his time.
